Boomers Meeting - September 15, 2011

9/20/2011

SEPTEMBER 15, 2011 – BOOMERS ‘R HEROES MEETING
Our 3rd meeting was held at the Reunion Stores attended by Kathy, Charles, Estelle, Linda and Roz, our newest hero.  Welcome Roz.  We started in a round-robin fashion with Estelle as our speaker for the day regarding Physical Fitness and its importance in maintaining our health under stress.  Estelle's new Sr. Fitness class just launched today at the Germantown YMCA open house and she's very excited about the program.  She's expressed how an actual choreographed class is preferred but also feels that a spontaneous format is also very helpful.  Estelle also received her Sr. Fitness Training Certification from Temple University after passing the exam.  Yay, Estelle.
I posed the question to Roz as to how she’s handling her mom who suffers with diabetes and is resistant to participating in activities which concerns her.  She says her mom has some memory lapses but doesn't feel that she's experiencing dementia.  The conversation then changed to a discussion about Dementia and Alzheimer’s with Linda and Roz interjecting their experiences with it.  Linda conveyed some vivid experiences she had with her mother and how tough it was to go through those times with her mom, seemingly alone in the struggle.  Linda has shown some tremendous growth and ability to share since attending these meetings.  She's showing the growth that I'd hoped to extend to other Boomers who need to share.  I interjected some experiences with a client who has Alzheimer’s and how out of touch she is with the current day.  The difficulties were reflected in Linda’s experiences, as well.  Kathy was surprised to learn that Linda’s mom was so disconnected and been through such an extended illness in that fashion.

Roz then mentioned the importance of good nutrition and natural supplements to support a healthy lifestyle and invited everyone to sit in on a teleconference for supplement business.

Kathy shared some family pictures of her new granddaughter and Doria’s wedding.  It’s so good to see her family growing.  She’s so proud, as she should be.

At the close of our meeting, I mentioned that we will be including a teleconferencing link up that will be available at the next meeting on October 6th.  I will follow-up with an email notice to current Heroes and to the Germantown HS Class of 68 mailing lists I’ve discovered on the Alumni website along with those I’ve heard from individually.
