Fun Meeting - 3-7-2012

3/7/2012

Dear Heroes,
Tonight, the 3rd MALT class series, was a fantastic event.  The speakers for the evening were Michele Griffin on Line Dance/Partner Dance as a fitness source and Laura Grassia on Sr. Care Adult Day Care Centers and Julia Eidelman of PCA.  Thanks Michele, Laura and Julia.
In attendance was Hero Beverly, Yvonne Willis and her friend Sharon.  It was a good night.  We had fun while Michele took us through some overview of the line dance and her connection with it and how it's impacted her life.  She then got us up and we learned a dance as a class, the Texas Twist...It was good and we had a good time.  We would have done more but there were  technical difficulties.
Laura led a discussion session where she answered questions about such things as what Senior Care adult day care offers, why is it useful and what about nursing homes.  She and Julia answered questions about insurance issues with home care and other situations.  Julia and Laura were both enthusiastically involved and happy to know that there is a group such as Boomers available to people.  They said they'd help us get information out.  Thanks for your help.
During the class we munched on soft pretzels (can't go wrong there).  We spoke of individual caregiving experiences with our family members and saw that it was a relief to get it off their chests.  One of our Heroes has truly been through it with the loss of her husband two years ago of a heart attack while shoveling snow, just 2 months after she moved her aunt ,who had alzheimers, into their home.  She lost her aunt a few months ago and is still healing from her losses.  Another member is seeking information in a proactive manner as her mom is good right now with early stages of dementia. Everyone was intermingling and exchanging information. The speakers were giving each other their contact information.  This is why this group was formed, to gather people together to talk about issues that we all share, even if it's not necessarily caregiving, but in life.  We are networking and growing with each session.
My goal is to set up sessions in different parts of the city in addition to the sessions that I will have at North Penn Baptist Church, continue to conduct sessions in Mt. Airy....I'll check into NIM to see if I can continue to use their facility.
