So Grateful!!
Wow. Our event was well received and we had a great time together. Although the subject is thought-provoking and difficult to discuss, when people gather together to learn and share their knowledge of services that are important to so many lives, there's a bonding that happens. You see it in the smiles below.

COFFEE WITH CONGRESSMAN
DWIGHT EVANS
In October,2019, I was privileged to be a participant in a coffee with Congressman Dwight Evans at the Alzheimer's Association office. It gave those of us on the front-lines in the caregiving services and support programs the opportunity to give voice to the needs of our caregiver community, in addition to the actual patients' care and services. He heard us, as he witnessed this dreaded disease with his own father when there was not much known about the diseases. We have someone who will help our stories be heard and move legislation forward as our aging population grows. I'm so happy to share this encouraging information with you from our government. Passing these acts will improve the care of dementia Alzheimer's patients and caregivers, as well.
As a result of our efforts in our community we have been heard. Please read this notice: Earlier today the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Older Americans Act (OAA) Reauthorization, which included the key elements of the Younger-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease Act of 2019 , most notably an expansion of some programs under the OAA to individuals under the age of 60. Now the legislation moves to the U.S. Senate. An estimated 200,000 Americans under the age of 65 are living with Alzheimer’s disease, yet because of their young age they are not currently eligible for support and service programs available to older Americans. With today’s vote the House has acted to fix this. But the House didn’t stop there. A short while later members also passed the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA). This legislation will improve quality end of life care for people with advanced stage dementia and other diseases. Make no mistake, YOU and the countless other advocates of the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s Impact Movement and our champions in Congress made this happen!

BOOMERS RECOGNIZED BY AARP
CAREGIVERS OF THE YEARIt is with great pride that we acknowledge Boomers' group members G. Goss-Smith (GiGi) and Karen Harrison as 2018 Caregivers of the Year. These ladies were recognized with an award presentation at the AARP Movie for Grown-ups showing "What They Had", starring Blythe Danner, at the Ritz Five, 214 Walnut St. on October 30, 2018. We were given free popcorn and soda, yay!! Further, I was priviledged to participate in the panel discussion regarding Alzheimer's Caregivers and their needs. The panel fielded many questions from the audience of caregivers. It was a wonderful evening culminating with the movie presentation depicting a family struggling to understand this disease as it changes the dynamics of the family structure. It was very touching and heartfelt by all who attended.
